New Delhi: Are the owners of Manchester City thinking about buying an Indian Premier League (IPL) team The Abu Dhabi United Group Investment and Development Limited owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan is reported to be interested in running a cricket club from its Abu Dhabi base as it reckons it will have global appeal.
IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, incidentally , has confirmed the move. I can confirm an English Premier League (EPL) club has approached us about buying a team. Till the tenders are out and the interested parties have bought them, these are all speculation.
Man City isnt the only British sports club looking for a foot in the IPL door. As reported by TOI on Feb 5, the Lords-based Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has also had discussions with IPL authorities. According to Modi, the MCCs involvement can lead to the possibility of taking the IPL bandwagon to Lords . I talked to MCC last night and they are quite interested (in buying a stake), Modi said.
